Pai Liang
This is my grandfather, Pai Liang. He was blind. This photograph's fixative is damaged, but I like the dreamy effect. Anyways, I was always under the belief that granddad cried so much when his 1st son was shipped to the Phillipines for war that he went blind - i.e. a hysterical blindness. But the story goes much deeper. Pai Liang was much envied for his job in the local government and for his interference in local/community disputes. Like his mother, he was trained in the martial arts and broke up many a fight, backing the underdog. On his way home one day, Pai Liang was attacked and beaten by a gang. He received blows to the head and eyes. And shortly thereafter, he lost his eyesight.
